If it was a sandhill crane wouldnt at least some of the witnesses have said: "oh look, there's a crane!" Or are they implying that everyone in point pleasant was too stupid to recognise a bird? Also, if the skeptics truly believe that it was just a bird, why not try to recreate it, either with a real bird, or a dummy? I have a feeling that if they did conduct such an experiment the amount of people that would say they saw a 6-7 foot monster with red glowing eyes would be: 0 While the people who said "I saw an unusual bird would be: everyone There are a few gullible people, there are some people with vision impairment, there are a few people that really crave attention and there are a few nutcases and liars. But in general, overall, I'd like to think that most people are NOT blind, they are NOT stupid, and they are NOT liars. For a grown adult (especially a GROUP of adults) to go to the police to report a sighting of something strange, I would argue it requires to be (in most cases) really quite strange and/or frightening. Even if you saw a huge sandhill crane or some other bird you wouldn't go to the police. Maybe you'd bring it up as an anecdote at the dinner table, maybe you'd call an animal expert and ask about it or something along those lines.

I got to go to the festival last year, so my Mothman plushie was sitting on my shoulder as I was watching this. I personally don't think sandhill cranes or herons are behind the sightings. They are tall, thin, and not dark colored enough. Owls match a little more closely, and they are active at night when people can't see as clearly.

I'm very late, I recently decided to watch all your videos in order from oldest to newest so that I don't miss any. I live in Philadelphia, PA and one of my dear friends was a fireman in the nearby city of Upper Darby. He has passed away, but years ago we were at a bar in Drexel Hill and I told him about a story I'd just read. Helen Conway was found burned in her easy chair in her home on Argyle Road in 1964. All that remained was her legs I think. John told me that he was one of the first responders on scene, he was a rookie fireman. He said Mrs. Conway was a heavy drinker and chain smoker, and the fire department concluded that the wick effect was the cause. I often wonder if the people who live in that house know the story of Mrs. Conway. SHC has been a morbid fear and fascination of mine ever since I heard that story. Excellent video, as always!

The earliest reports stated large bird ..the media changed to name to mothman to sell newspapers ..The tv show sightings also stated it was a large aggressive bird..

I had no doubt this wild be the best rendition of this story. But I didn't expect the amount of new detail you were able to add! You have woke up an old curiosity with a new passion! I think it is some sort of multidimensional phenomenon.

People in general wouldn't come forward with these stories unless there's something to it, you can't just right it off, giant humanoid with wings, flapping over the car, I don't think anyone could make that up, maybe a Hollywood script writer, I was a total skeptic, but as an old man I absolutely believe there are other dimensions and sometimes they delve into ours for a moment.

Not only that but the statistics for increase in traffic and increase in weight in overall vehicles crossing the bridge are pertinent and highly credible and dismiss supernatural theories. Your video is as excellent as always. Thank you. That said, I'm so sorry, but I had hoped that you would never cover this particular subject. Mothman has been my bane for many decades now, because it helped shatter my faith in humanity. I had written a thesis length reply, but I decided to shorten it to a bitter rant. I read about mothman back in 1975 when Keel's book first came out. For many years after, I would mention the subject to anyone who was interested in UFOs or cryptids, and not one person had read the book or had heard anything about it. This literally went on for decades. In the late 1990s I would bring up this subject on early UFO and unsolved mystery forums and again no one knew what I was referring to. Then, the boring move The Mothman Prophecies came out in 2002, and suddenly EVERYONE in the whole world knew the mothman legend! Not only that, but many people whom I had spoken with - that had told me that they had never even heard of mothman - suddenly claimed to not only have known all about it, but some claimed to have see it themselves. For a long time after I felt sick to my stomach whenever I saw the name "mothman". I was saddened and horrified to find just how many people were willing to lie just to be part of a silly legend, which was most likely the result of misidentification and/or out right hoax. I apologize for the rant. It's just that to this day I'm sickened whenever I see the name mothman. I hope you understand.

I lived most of my life in West Virginia and I can tell you no one believes it was any kind of bird. They saw what they saw and it wasn't a natural creature.
